The Paddock Spotlight: Women in Motorsport – May Edition

Last month saw a significant uptake in the amount of motorsport taking place around the world. With that came a wave of success stories with women at the centre of them. If you missed last month’s edition highlighting a number of those achievements, you can find it here. The month of May was no different. Katherine Legge competed in the 110th running of the Indy 500 as she became the first woman to attempt the double, the all female Kyojo Cup kicked off its season in Japan and a vast multitude of other racing series continued on their way across the rest of the globe. Let’s take a look then at the women in motorsport who impressed the most.

Over in Australia at Queensland Raceway in the TA2 Muscle Car Series, Alice Buckley, along with teammate Tim Slade, put on a masterclass performance to become Enduro 2 winners and the 2026 TA2 Tag Team Enduro Champions. The pair put on a fantastic performance to bring the victory home after achieving double pole position for the weekend of racing.

After qualifying on pole ahead of the latest GB3 race weekend at the iconic Spa circuit in Belgium, Abbi Pulling went on to win the first race of the weekend in dominant style. She becomes the first woman in history to achieve this in doing so. She then followed up her win with a solid P5 finish in the second race of the weekend. Leaving Spa, she sits in P6 overall in the Championship.

Competing in the GT4 Championship in Australia, Summer, alongside teammate Jared Hughes, took her first win in the series at the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park at The Bend in Adelaide. Since making her debut in the series last year, Summer has been able to achieve second and third place finishes but that all important win has eluded her – until now.

The nineteen year old will next be racing at the Queensland Raceway in Ipswich from the 12th-14th June.

Mathilda Paatz

Having not scored any points in F1 Academy prior to Canada, Mathilda Paatz reached a major milestone moment in Canada in May.

At the venue where she made her F1 Academy debut in dramatic style last year as a Wild Card Driver, Paatz gave Aston Martin their first win and podium of 2026. In the opening race prior, she secured her first podium with a P3 finish and it was a result that she followed up with a fifth place finish in the feature race on Sunday.

Competing this year in the FFSA GT4 France Series with Mirage Racing, Jodie Sloss headed to Dijon last weekend for the second round of the Championship. After struggles early in the weekend through testing and qualifying, Jodie and the team were able to turn things around when it mattered most. Consistent stints from both Jodie and her teammate David meant that they brought home their car in first place, taking the win in the first of two races at Dijon.

Puck Klaassen

After a difficult opening stage of the third round of the W2RC Championship in Argentina, Puck Klaassen bounced back with a P3 finish in Stage 2. She then won Stage 3 and Stage 4 before finishing the final stage in P2. Overall, that put her in P3 in class for the gruelling race in South America. Once again, Puck proves to be a force to be reckoned with in the off-road world.

Katherine Legge made history this month as she became the first woman to ever attempt the double – competing in both the Indy 500 and the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 on the same day. While neither race went her way for a number of unfortunate reasons, her resilience and speed behind the wheel were impressive and have to be admired.

The British GT Championship held its opening round of the 2026 Season at the iconic Silverstone Circuit. Racing the #21 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo in the GT4 class, Jessica Hawkins claimed a solid second place finish, along with teammate Will Orton for MK Racing. Not a bad way at all to end the opening three hour race of the year.

Lindsay Brewer

Competing in the second round of the 2026 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Season at Laguna Seca, Lindsay Brewer had one of strongest weekends to date. Having been penalised down to fifth place after finishing in second in the first race of the weekend, Brewer found redemption in the final event of the weekend. Along with teammate Keawn Tandon at Forty7 Motorsports, she managed to finish again in P2 – and this time, kept it. She and the team now sit in P2 overall in the Championship with 40 points, ahead of the next round at Watkins Glen in June.

Later in the month, she partnered back up with Celia Martin for the GT3 revival series at Spa where the pair recovered to P13 from P23 after gearbox issues during practice and qualifying.

Alexandra Hainer

Alexandra Hainer, the defending ProAm champion returned to the McLaren Trophy North America in early May. Held at the Miami International Autodrome, Hainer stepped up to the Pro class on this occasion and immediately hit the ground running. By the end of an action packed race that saw drama from the very first corner on the opening lap, Alexandra was able to secure a class podium finish in third.

Another Endurance Racer who did well in May was Cindy Gudet. She acheived a ProAm class podium third place finish upon her return to the JS2 R class of the Ligier European Series at Circuit Paul Ricard. Competing for M Racing alongisde Nathan Huet, they were also able to achieve a seventh-place overall finish following the second race of the weekend.

Competing in the second round of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Championship 2026 in Misano, Federica Levy crossed a milestone moment of her carer to date. She did this as she achieved her first podium in the series by finishing in third place.

Making her LMP3 debut at the Jim Clark Revival in early May, Emma Wigroth achieved two third place finishes in class along with an overall result of fourth. This was the end result from a strong start to the weekend where Wigroth was comfortably in the top five for both practice sessions. The Gebhardt Motorsport driver will be one that we also keep an eye on as the rest of the year unfolds.
